Memorias Híbridas

Oral tradition, interculturality and collective resistance

2023-2024

‘Memorias Híbridas’ (Hybrid Memories) is an artistic research and experimentation project that explores the potential of oral tradition as an adaptive practice of creation, cohesion and social and collective resistance.
In the first phase of my research, I built an audio archive that collects myths and legends from the oral tradition of Barcelona (See map) In the second phase, I developed an intercultural and feminist oral laboratory, where we used dialogue, shared authorship, and the (d)effects of spoken language to deconstruct, rethink, and reinvent the content of this archive. This laboratory took place at La Bonne (labonne.org) from March to June 2023 and included the participation of nine women from Senegal, Morocco, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Palestine, Iran, Mexico, and France.

The objective of “Memorias Hibridas” was to observe how the symbolic violence that operates in our collective memories influences our way of “creating community” in a city that wants to define itself as “plural and diverse”. Through the use of oral traditions, cultural exchange, and shared authorship, the project seeks to imagine a new intangible heritage of Barcelona that, although fictional, would take into consideration the need to move towards a more intercultural and egalitarian society.
